The SoulPhoenixs is a fabulously funk explosion from Nantes! The energy of these promising French musicians spreads via their groove and they going to show it at the Gigstarter Artist of the Year Final on December 8th. They selected the three acts that influenced their sound the most.
Tower of Power
'Soul with a Capital S. Tower of Power is an American R&B-based horn section and band that has been performing since 1968. They are one of the greatest funk band from the 70's. We are influenced by the horns riffs and the richness of the rhythms. And they are still performing. Check out their Tiny Desk concert from this year to see for yourself.'
Jamiroquaï
'An act who is definitely in the top of our list of inspirations is Jamiroquaï. This jazz-funk band from London debuted as an acid-jazz band and have since explored other musical directions such as pop, rock, disco and electronica. The band inspires us by the complexity of their structures and their sound in general. Our favorite song is the catchy Too Young to Die!'
Vintage Trouble
'We also like bands who combine Rock'n'Roll with Soul. It will give you a mix between Soul's softness and the wild side of Rock. No other band is doing this better than Vintage Trouble at the moment. They have a great live show with a lot of energy. You can see and hear that in this clip, Blue Hands me Down.'
