The Spanish DJ Frank Gomez is the Gigstarter DJ of the Year 2018. We interviewed Frank about his career as a DJ, tips for fellow DJs and how he became DJ of the Year.
When did you start as DJ?
'I became interested in music in 1998, and in 2005 I started working as a waiter in a discotheque, in the old Cathedral Club in Seville. Early in the morning when there was no one, instead of having a CD playing In the nightclub, I used to go practicing. On Wednesday we played funky and soul music, the other days we played house and tech. That's how I got involved in the great genres House and Funk.'

Do you produce your own music?
'I produce my own music, both in tech house and in other musical genres, for when I go to other clubs where they don't play house. My remixes of the specific genre of the nightclub are with me if I go to that specific place.'
Congratulations with your title Gigstarter DJ of the Year! Did you ever won an international DJ competition?
'Never, and I'm glad to have been in first position this time. Last year, the contest was very close with the Dutch DJ Mike Gerritsen and then I ended in third position.'
How did you won the Gigstarter DJ of the Year competition?
'Well I promoted it a lot on my Instagram, Facebook and Whats-app account. Even when I was with friends drinking coffee, I took their phones and passed the information to their friends and contacts.'Frank Gomez at Los Palomos Badajoz 2017
What has been your greatest gig you will never forget?
'Festival los Palomos, Badajoz for 26,000 people.'
Besides Gigstarter, how do you get gigs?

What are your future plans?
'Continue working as a graphic designer and producing music during the spare time. In the summer I hope to have a lot of gigs and play the creations I made in the winter.'
