Epistulum / Band
Epistulum is een melodieuze deathmetalband uit Leiden.
Opgericht in 2017 door toetsenist en zanger Thijs Ronteltap als soloproject, groeide Epistulum langzaam uit tot een volwaardige band met Jeroen Nels op leadgitaar, Ramón Roest op drums, Justus Ebel op basgitaar en Billy ter Horst op slaggitaar, later vervangen door Jeremy De Boer.
De band produceerde en bracht hun eerste volledige album uit op 26 augustus 2022. Het album, FROM THE DEAD MASSES, is een verzameling muzikale portretten van de oeroude agressies binnen het menselijk bestaan, door middel van explosieve, synthgedreven deathmetal. Tot nu toe heeft de band meerdere optredens in hun geboorteland Nederland gegeven, maar speelde ook hun eerste buitenlandse show in Ahrensburg, Duitsland, in maart 2024.
De band is nu klaar met het werken aan een nieuw album getiteld CANTIGA PSYCHOTICA, dat in oktober 2025 uitkomt. Deze release schetst verschillende schizofrene beelden van diverse menselijke praktijken, of het nu religie is of de psychologie van de innerlijke wereld, en creëert een gevoel van paranoïde angst gedurende de hele speelduur. Van duistere archetypen die de luisteraar begeleiden om alle hoop op vastklampen aan een imago te vernietigen tot desolate beelden van een grote demone die de zielen van haar volgelingen op aarde in seksuele extase aan haar lichaam laat vreten, CANTIGA PSYCHOTICA is een grensverleggend experiment, bedoeld om de luisteraar een angstaanjagende maar harmonische oefening van grote agressie op te leggen, voornamelijk om zich- of haarzelf te bevrijden van destructieve conventies, of het nu gaat om sociale, politieke of religieuze conditionering van welke aard dan ook.
