Apichat Pakwan is een live & DJ duo uit Thailand & Nederland. Ze maken Esantronics – een mix van molam (volksmuziek van de etnische Lao, waarvan het grootste deel in Noordoost-Thailand woont, een gebied dat ook wel Esan genoemd wordt), dub, psychfunk, hiphop & electro.
Wat Apichat Pakwan uniek maakt is hun mix van traditionele instrumenten en avontuurlijke live elektronica, die bestaat uit analoge modulaire synthesizers, zelf geprogrammeerde software en veldopnames uit Thailand.
De traditionele instrumenten die het duo bespeelt zijn o.a. de kaen (Laotiaans mondorgel), saw duang (Thai klassieke luit), klui (Thaise fluit), đàn bầu (Vietnamees monochord), H'Mong mondharp, en Aziatische percussie.
Ze spelen origineel repertoire uit Esan, maar ook eigen interpretaties en composities, allemaal op zeer dansbare dubby beats.
Hiernaast kan het duo geboekt worden als DJ's, of in combinatie met een live set. Ze draaien net zo makkelijk met hun originele vinyl collectie als met hun eigen digitale DJ setup. Naast hun eigen muziek draaien ze een mix van tropische dansmuziek uit alle windstreken, waaronder cumbia, kuduro, samba, salsa, afrobeat, gqom, chaabi etc.
Apichat Pakwan is in Nederland alleen beschikbaar vanaf 30 April t/m 30 Oktober.

Het contact met Olivier was prima en alle afspraken zijn prima nagekomen. Het optreden was prima verzorgd. Het is een welkome afwisseling tussen al het gitaargeweld. Kort samengevat zou ik willen zeggen: "Wil je je wanen in de gemoedelijke Thaise sferen, dan zou je Apichat Pakwan eens moeten proberen."
